Stephen Ministry is our congregation’s one-to-one care giving ministry. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whole life seems barren and forlorn because of some crisis or tragedy.
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of Stephen Ministry because it is essential for building safe, healing, caring relationships. Stephen Ministers do not reveal what their care receivers have told them. They do not reveal anything to the pastor, to the Stephen Leaders, to their spouses or friends and not to other Stephen Ministers. The relationship is one built on trust, where people at their most vulnerable can feel confident in knowing that the person who is listening and caring for them will not spread their conversations as gossip. Confidentiality promotes healing.
A Stephen Minister is a reassuring presence modeling listening as Jesus did, and Jesus was a good listener. Our Stephen Ministers use good listening skills to communicate how much they care.
Still many people are reticent to ask for help during times of loss. No matter what the reason, many would prefer to suffer alone than to ask for help. But suffering alone is not God’s intent for us. Jesus has promised rest to all who are weary and burdened down. Through our Stephen Ministers, we can offer a way of rest and caring.
If you feel the need for a Stephen Minister, for the kind of care that Jesus has offered, please reach out. You can call our church office at (314) 843-6577, or Janet Plummer at (314) 729-0391, to be connected with a Stephen Minister.
